Standards of examination requirements for the vocation: IT technician 312[01]
Written part of the exam

Part I – the knowledge and skills specified for the vocational qualification:
 

The graduates should be able to:

Read with understanding the information presented in the form of descriptions, instructions, drawings, diagrams, technical and technological documentation, specially:

-          distinguish sub-units of computer devices on the base of graphic symbols, marks, parameters and look

-          recognise graphic symbols of algorithms presented in block diagrams

-          recognise orders and instructions used in the programming languages: structural and object oriented

-          define the function of the sub-units of computer devices on the base of block-schemes

-          Use terms and names characteristic for computing systems

-          distinguish difference specialist terms used in the technical documentation of computing systems

-          Interpret the catalogue parameters of computer devices 

Process numerical and operational data, specially:

-          analyse the algorithms show in the block diagrams, steps lists, decision trees

-          analyse the programs ( data structure and algorithms)

-          use IT technology to collect,  order,  process and present the data

-          to use the principles of object oriented and structural programming

-          to transform the data from the decimal system/notation into binary system/notation
     and hexadecimal system/notation and inversely.

-          Analyse work of the informatics system basing on the data used as the result of the tests executed

-          Select computer devices according to the specific technical requirements

-          Use the principles of installation and exploitation of operational systems

-          Use the principles of local area network (LAN) administration;

-          Use the principles of connection local area network to the Internet

-          Use the principles of anti-virus protection of computing systems

 

Safety performance the vocational tasks according to the general safety hints,
fire protection and environmental protection hints:

-          select the means of personal protection during the works related to launch
    and exploitation of computer devices

-          use the general safety hints, fire protection and environmental protection hints obligatory during
     the launch and exploitation of computer devices

-          to indicate the results of activities performed not correctly without compliance with valid regulations,
     safety hints, technological requirements

-          to distinguish  means of personal protection during the works with exploitation of tools
     and devices electric power supplied

-          to define the activities related with first help in case of electric shock accident   

Part II – the knowledge and skills specified for the employment and business activity 

The graduates should be able to: 

Read with understanding the information presented in the form of descriptions, instructions, , diagrams, tables, specially:

-          to distinguish basic terms and definitions from the field /from the range of economy,
     labour law, tax low, business activity regulations

-          to distinguish the documents related to employment and business activity

-          to identify and analyse the information concerning requirements and entitlements of an employer,
     an employee, an unemployed and a client 

Process numerical and operational data, specially:

-          to analyse the information concerning with qualification improvement, look for a job,
     employment and business activity

-          to draw up the documents concerning looking for a job, employment, business activity

-          to distinguish the consequences effluent from labour relations 

Practical part of the exam: 

Covers the realization of specified examination task effluent from the general task: 

To prepare the project and realisation specified works from the area of diagnostic
and the removal causes of incorrect operation of a computer system.
 

The graduate should be able to:

-          identify the causes of defective operation of a system, on the base of signs observed and
     to prepare the schedule of works connected with diagnostic and removal of defects in the system operation

-          use the auto-diagnose function of computer system and to analyse device or program
     documentation to diagnose the defect

-          select and use diagnostic software in case that built-in diagnostic tools don’t identify unambiguously
     the case of the defect

-          remove identified soft- or hardware defect in the most efficient (safe, non-invasial, complex)
     for the computer system way

-          bring back the efficiency of computer system and retrieve the user’s data and protect
     the system from similar defects

-          test the efficiency of computer system by using diagnostic tools and make the conclusions
     of correctness of computer system

-          elaborate hints for utilise computer system after diagnose and removal of the defect. 

The equipment required to perform examination task: 

Computer workplace: computer connected to the local area network (LAN), network printer

Software: office software ( text editor, spreadsheet, presentation software) anti-virus and diagnostic packets, operation system updating package.

Fitter’s table with the electric power connection, with anti fire protection and emergency switch. Non operational computer connected to the Ethernet switch with failed connection to LAN and Internet with defected unit or software. The tools for montage and disassembly of computer. The means of personal protection.  Waste container. First-aid kit. 

 

There are two ways of receiving IT qualification in the Polish system of education – secondary (post-gymnasium) and higher education level.

1.
   technical secondary school (4 years) – a graduate is awarded the title of IT technician (technik informatyk). Beginning from 2006 there is a possibility to take an exam – confirming professional qualification. The exam measures knowledge and skills of a profession, according to Ministry of Education standards (more information: www.cke.edu.pl.).

2.
   specialized lyceum (3 years) – among many profiles of education, pupil can choose one e.g. management of information (zarządzanie informacją). Graduates do not award any title or qualification in IT field but have two options for continuing education:

§      
  post-lyceum school
§   studies (to qualify for admission, the applicant must hold the maturity certificate
                      - świadectwo dojrzałości)

3.   post-lyceum school (2 years) - a graduate is awarded the title of IT technician (technik
informatyk)
, has also possibility to take an exam – confirming professional qualification (like a graduate of technical secondary school)

4.
   studies - to qualify for admission to an institution of higher education, the applicant must hold the maturity certificate - świadectwo dojrzałości. The rules of admission to the first year of study are determined autonomously by each institution. There is a lot of possibilities of education in IT field (a lot of courses and specialisation). A graduate awards a title:

a)
     the professional title of licencjat - is awarded following the completion of 3 or 3.5-year higher professional education courses;
b)
     the professional title of inżynier - is awarded following the completion of 3.5 or 4-year higher professional education courses in technical areas
c)
     the title of magister - is awarded following the completion of uniform 5 or 6-year magister-level courses

The title of magister may also be obtained following the completion of 2 or 2.5-year complementary magister-level courses, for which holders of the professional title of licencjat or inżynier are eligible.

To be awarded any of the above titles the student must complete all subjects and internships or a practical placement included in the curriculum, submit and defend a diploma project or thesis and pass a diploma examination. Upon graduation, each student receives a diploma in IT sector, three copies of the diploma and, upon request, a diploma in a foreign language.
