Federation for Information Processing
IFIP is a non-governmental, non-profit umbrella organization for national
societies working in the field of information processing. It was established
in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO as an aftermath of the first World
Computer Congress held in Paris in 1959. Today, IFIP has several types of
Members and maintains friendly connections to specialized agencies of the
UN system and
non-governmental organizations. Technical work, which is the heart of IFIP's
activity, is managed by a series of

SWISS ICT INDUSTRY
Switzerland is one of the most computerized countries in the world. It
spent $21.5 billion (9.4% of GDP) on information and communication
technology in 2001 - more per capita than any other country. There are
currently close to 5 million computers in Switzerland. 80% are PCs (personal
computers, workstations and desktop models). 44% of the population has
access
to PCs, placing the country fifth worldwide in market penetration. Despite
its relatively small size, Switzerland is seen as an attractive, highly
developed and competitivemarket for Europe.
